What Group Therapy involves

Group therapy is clinician-facilitated, not a free-for-all. A member of our staff runs each session, sets the ground rules and keeps the room safe, which is what separates it from an informal peer meeting.

Much of what makes it work is simply hearing the same thing said by someone who is living it. Isolation and the belief that your situation is uniquely shameful are common in addiction, and both tend to weaken in a room of people describing the same patterns.

What to expect

Facilitated, not unstructured

A clinician leads every session, holds the boundaries and steps in when a topic needs care.

A place to practise

Group is where communication, boundary-setting and accountability get rehearsed before you need them at home.

Confidentiality is the rule

What is said in the room stays there. It is stated openly and enforced.

Where it fits in your care

Available at these levels of care. Most people move through more than one.
